uglydog
Miss Ellie, a pure breed Chinese crested hairless from Tennessee, has taken the first place award at the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition at Sonoma-Marin Fair in California.
According to the reports, she is around 15 years old, has only a couple of back teeth, cataracts in both her eyes, several moles and pimples and limited hair. There’s a joke in there somewhere.
This is becoming a yearly announcement on my blog since I posted a picture of last year’s winner as well.

I finally got around to creating a new “What’s the Difference?” puzzle. I altered the one on the right so that there are five subtle differences from the original. Can you find them?

About the photo: I took the picture with my I-Phone last Friday. It’s the construction outside my office at my day-job where they are renovating our courtyard.

A technical note. I’m trying something new this week. I played with some programming, so now you can actually click anywhere on either picture to see if you’ve guess correctly. Hope everyone likes it.

What’s the Difference - #05

jorge

As regular readers know, I’m a huge fan of ABC’s Lost. So I was delighted to find this blog from Jorge Garcia.
Jorge plays the role of Hugo “Hurley” Reyes, and is one of my favorite characters on the show (something a lot of fans share). Jorge also seems to be a genuinely nice, down to earth, and funny guy. He updates his blog almost daily and gives his fans a unique look into his life, complete with pictures taken with his cell phone. Recent posts have included details of buying a new TV and a pretty detailed account of his trip to New York City.
What I really like about it is that there is no way this folksy, homespun blog is being updated by a publicist or assistant on the ‘official’ network blog. It’s  just Jorge himself using Blogspot.

invis-ju-29-09Clearly this week’s movie has something to do with armor and helmets, and swords and Roman soldiers. But which one? Here’s your hint: this classic was a four time Academy Award winner from 1964 that stared Elizabeth Taylor in the lead role.

As a bit of trivia, it ranks as one of the most expensive films ever produced. Originally budgeted at $2 million, it ended up costing $44 million — the equivalent of $295 million in 2007 dollars. It won Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects. It was also nominated, but did not win, for Best Picture and Best Actor.

cannon

Play this game like online billiards. Take aim and make bubbles of the same color collide and pop, to get more bubbles. Pretty simple, and fun.

I just found this video from the TV station in Sarasota, Florida. This summer they’re tearing down the main building where I went to high school to move into a new facility on the same campus. The loss of the building was very controversial since it was designed by Paul Rudolph, a world renowned architect.

Ron Carr, who’s interviewed in the piece, was my old English teacher and debate coach, and a heck of a good guy. He was one of those teachers who left a real imprint on his students.

invis-june-22-09Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman starred in this 2001 film that is our Invisible Movie this week. It shares the name with a famous Paris cabaret, and there have been several films using the name, including a 1952 classic directed by John Houston and starring José Ferrer and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

As a bit of trivia, the movie’s namesake was built in 1889 and features a windmill on its roof. It was the home of the original “Can Can” dance.

Former Lovejoy High football standout Ray Waters was featured on the Spike TV show Pros v. Joes last night. I missed the original airing but found it online. I also expect that Spike will replay it several times over the next few weeks.

Ray played for the Wildcats back in the late ’90s before going on to play both football and baseball in the Ivy League for Columbia. He’s now works in real estate in Stockbridge. By the way, Ray comes from a great family. Brothers Ethan and Ray Konas also played at Lovejoy and his dad, Ray Sr. , is pastor of the Village Church.

In case you haven’t seen it, Pros vs. Joes is a reality competition show that matches professional athletes against so-called “average Joes.” In last night’s episode, Ray and his team were matched up against former NFL stars Tim Brown, Simeon Rice and Rich Gannon.
